[edit]According to this newspaper article, Benton, Alabama was originally known as Mauls Landing. FloridaArmy (talk) 13:41, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
Move to draft
[edit]Unlikely that the Maul (legislator) was the same as the Maull (of Maull's landing), no source links the two (see also [1], unreliable source but still...). Plus, all sources seem to use Maull, so why "Maul"? Needs more work before it is ready for mainspace. Fram (talk) 19:49, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
I removed the bit Fram is disputing. It stated:
"Benton was settled on land owned by James Maull and was initially known as Maull's Landing before being renamed and incorporated as Benton in 1834.[1]"
